Kay Larsen, Vero Beach

Kay Larsen, of Vero Beach, passed away on Easter morning, April 5, 2015.

He is survived by his son Robert, and was eternally grateful to have so many wonderful friendships.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, and sons Joe and John.

Larsen was a member of the “Greatest Generation.” He resided in Vero Beach since 1980. Larsen was known among family, friends and clients as ultra-energetic, youthful, and a truly joyful spirit to share.

Born Oct. 18, 1918, in Copenhagen, Denmark, Larsen was an expert sailor and life-long member of the world famous Hellerup yacht club. He became a painter’s apprentice requiring several years of color science schooling to become a “Master Painter” of homes.

A member of the Danish underground during the Nazi occupation, he was inspired by American liberators to immigrate to the U.S., and followed his brother Niels over to the states in 1949. He crossed the U.S. twice before settling in Northern Virginia, calling Arlington and Alexandria his home.

His family enjoyed sail racing and cruising on the Chesapeake Bay aboard their Tartan 27 for many years before retiring to Vero Beach. He was remarkably clear-headed and mentally sharp until his departure.

A Scandinavian Farewell is planned at his former residence. We love you Far.
