3rd measles case confirmed in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A third person in Indian River County has contracted measles, the Florida Department of Health announced Tuesday night.

The department said the latest case involves an unvaccinated adolescent and that the child has recovered.

The other two measles cases involve two unvaccinated adults. The first case was internationally acquired; the second case was locally acquired in the same household.

No further information was released about the adults who contracted the disease.

Measles is a serious respiratory disease caused by a virus of the same name (Measles). The disease is highly contagious and can spread to others who are unvaccinated.
