Sealrite offers innovative, patent-pending paver solution

One-inch paver overlays can be a quick, creative and economical way to renew and dress up walkways, decks and more, especially along the Treasure Coast, where concrete is surely the king of manmade surfaces for homes and common areas. Thanks to a bonding agent developed by Sealrite Pavers of Vero Beach, these pavers are transforming driveways, too.

The 14-year old company at 665 4th Street, owned by brothers Tim and Richard Berry, has a history of beautifying homes by installing driveways, pool decks, walkways and patios, outdoor kitchens, outdoor fireplaces and more. The brothers say their one-inch paver overlays are able to handle the weight and stress of vehicles on driveways as well as on less demanding spaces.

“The pavers enhance the value of people’s homes,” said Tim. “The curb appeal is huge.”

Their offering, Paver Loc, is a dry-setting product created jointly by a chemist and installer specifically for 1-inch paver installations over existing concrete sidewalks, driveways, pool decks and patios. The mixture has been successfully installed on over 750,000 square feet of concrete driveways alone, they say; the one-inch overlays make up 60 percent of their work.

The company says process/product is cost efficient and has a quick and easy application with no costly concrete removal or preparation time. It is environmentally friendly because there is no concrete being dumped into landfills. There’s no risk to underground utilities and the product inhibits mold and grass from growing through the pavers.

“We get in and get out in a couple of days,” said Tim Berry. “We’re not there for weeks.”

The process replaces a sometimes ineffective one that’s been commonly used by companies that set one-inch pavers in mason sand over existing pool decks, patios and porches. “It works but it’s just not as effective,” he added.

“The rain washes the sand away, which rocks the pavers, causing them to become uneven” and crack them,” said Richard Berry, sitting in the showroom on 4th Street with colorful pavers in earth tones, pastels, brick, travertine, coral stone, shellstone and more. “Paver Loc is a huge innovation,”

The Paver Loc patent is pending.

Sealrite Pavers offers 2 3/8-inch pavers as well as the one-inch and a full range of products and services for retaining walls, firepits, outdoor kitchens and outdoor fireplaces. They do concrete and asphalt removal, and the company does complete pool renovations, and tile and gemcoat renovation.

There’s enough variety to ensure that outdoor surfaces never need look uniform or bland. “We are a beach town,” said Robyn Sandham, the office manager. “When you’re outside, you want to look at something aesthetic, not boring concrete.”

Said Richard: “We started this company in the guest bedroom of our house and have grown it to a multimillion-dollar business.”

The company began by selling and cleaning brick, then expanded into patio installation and much more, including a 200,000 square foot roadway installation project in Indian River Shores that was completed in September. Sealrite also recently completed a 45,000-square-foot project on Ocean Towers roadways and parking areas.

The brothers were born and raised in Vero Beach, the family’s third generation here. Tim Berry has worked in the paver industry for 30 years on the Treasure Coast. Richard Berry worked for AT&T for 20 years before the two brother started the business in 2001.

The business has been growing 35 percent a year since it opened, according to Tim Berry.
