Riverview Park Memorial Walkway reaches 776 dedicated bricks

SEBASTIAN — The latest shipment of remembrance bricks was installed in early March at Riverview Park Memorial Walkway in Sebastian, bringing the total number of bricks in place to 776.

The concept of the Memorial Brick Program was developed by Dave Wortmann, a local veteran, and his wife, Fran who later partnered with George and Christine Von Kantor to expand the road map of the project.

Dedication of the first part of the Memorial Walkway linking the Veterans Memorial and the Four Chaplains Memorial took place in the summer of 2012. The walkway is designed to provide a memorial for loved ones, to offer an educational opportunity for students to learn about the military forces and the part these valiant men and women played in the country’s history, and to furnish a peaceful environment for dedication ceremonies and other local events.

These laser-engraved bricks serve not only to remember the veterans community, but many people have ordered Memorial Bricks to celebrate the lives of non-military loved ones, to honor people who have touched their lives, or to commemorate the life of a special person or hero who has made a difference. Nearly everyone can think back to someone in his or her life who has had an impact.

The memorial bricks for veterans are positioned along the walkway between and around the two memorials. Non-veteran memorial bricks are ensconced along the walkway leading to the memorials.

Memorial bricks may be purchased at any time and are priced at $35 per brick, or three bricks for $100. Citizens, corporate entities and neighborhood businesses are encouraged to acquire bricks in support of the memorial. All net proceeds from the sale of these bricks go directly to benefit programs assisting local veterans.

For more information, contact Dave Wortmann directly by phone (954) 818-7405 or email, davidwortmann@comcast.net. Ordering information is also available on the

Memorial Bricks website: www.veterans-memorial-bricks.org. The bricks will be available for sale on Earth Day, April 18 at Riverview Park, Sebastian.
