Virginia Scott Gregory Clark, 83, Vero Beach

Virginia Scott Gregory Clark, 83, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, surrounded by her loving family.

She was a devoted wife of over 55 years to Joe; mother to her son Drew and his wife Gail of Howard County, and to her daughter, Scottie Campbell and her husband Lewis of Vero Beach; as well as a wonderful grandmother to Drew and Gail’s children, Joseph, Olivia and Robert.

She was predeceased by her husband and brothers Charles, Dulany, Herbert and Richard.

The daughter of Richard Herbert Gregory and Adelaide Louise Nelson, Clark, or Ginger as she was known by family and friends, was born in Baltimore, Md., on July 21, 1931.

She was a proud member of the First Families of Virginia and the Daughters of the American Revolution having determined through genealogical research that her family first arrived in the Colonies in 1609.

Clark was a long standing Parishioner at St. John’s Episcopal Church of Ellicott City, Maryland as well as the St. Augustine Episcopal Church of Vero Beach. In October, 1955 Clark married Joseph Hopkins Clark and they began their life together in Howard County, Md., where Joe’s family first established roots in 1772.

The couple became permanent residents of Vero Beach in 1997. Clark was fully engaged in the life of her community and children. She was active in the Forest Hills Swim and Tennis Club, Howard County PTA, Garden Gate Garden Club and many other activities before launching a successful career in real estate.

She was passionate about learning and expanding her horizons having traveled extensively with Joe. Along their journey together, she became an expert gardener, photographer and culinary aficionado having formed two gourmet dinner groups with several of their best friends. Clark was very outgoing, had a smile that would light up the room when she entered, and was loved by all who truly knew her.

A viewing will be held on Friday, April 17, from 4 to 7: p.m. at the Harry H. Witzke’s Family Funeral Home, 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City. The funeral service and burial will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 9120 Frederick Road, Ellicott City, on Saturday, April 18, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon at Dimitri’s International Grille in Catonsville.
