Accused Macy’s shoplifter bites store security in struggle to flee

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A Macy’s asset protection detective suffered a bite to the chest as an accused shoplifter attempted to flee the store with almost $500 worth of merchandise on Saturday evening, according to an official report

Taquanna Vickers, 25, of Fort Pierce, filled her purse with men’s Polo shirts and was attempting to exit the building when the detective confronted her at the door, the arrest affidavit states.

Vickers struggled with the detective and a second store officer as the two attempted to put the woman in handcuffs.

During the struggle, Vickers bit the store detective in the chest, breaking the skin and leaving a bruise, according to the arrest affidavit.

Police arrested Vickers at the Indian River Mall in the 6200 block of State Road 60 in Vero Beach.

Vickers now faces charges including resist merchant, misdemeanor battery, and retail theft property value over $300. She was released from the Indian River County Jail on $2,500 bond.
