Vero Beach Choral Society presents 30th anniversary concert April 24

VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach Choral Society (VBCS), under the direction of Dr. Jason Hobratschk, will present its spring concert, “Celebrating a Choral Legacy,” on April 24 and 26, 2015.

For this 30th-anniversary concert, the VBCS is pleased to have its founding artistic director, Dr. Ray Adams, as a guest conductor. The VBCS will be joined by the choir of the Indian River Charter High School, Mr. Gary Miller, director. Organist Ms. Judith Taylor and the Portside Brass Ensemble will also participate in this festive event.

Dr. Ray Adams will conduct the combined choirs in John Rutter’s Gloria and Te Deum for choir, organ, and large brass ensemble. The combined choirs will also sing the spiritual “Ain-a that Good News” in an arrangement by William Dawson (1899-1990) and the “Ave Maria” by Jacques Arcadelt (c. 1507-1568) under the direction of Mr. Gary Miller. The choirs will also perform several numbers separately.

The Vero Beach Choral Society is celebrating its 30th season of bringing quality, well-prepared choral literature to the Treasure Coast. This collaborative concert celebrates not only the musical heritage of the Vero Beach Choral Society, but also the future of organizations such as this, replete with the fresh and inspiring music that the young musicians of the Indian River Charter High School and their contemporaries will bring to our future musical landscape. The Vero Beach Choral Society is happy to help ensure that future by continuing to offer scholarships to Indian River County students wishing to study music in college.

Former members of the Vero Beach Choral Society will be invited to join the full ensemble in singing “My native land is my love,” the national anthem of Estonia, in commemoration of the ensemble’s participation in Bridges of Song, the East-West United Song Festival in Tallinn, Estonia in 1991.

Performances will be held Friday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 26th at 3 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, located at 2365 Pine Ave., at the intersection of 10th Avenue and Royal Palm Boulevard.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door; students tickets are $5.

Tickets are available from members of the Vero Beach Choral Society; online at www.verobeachchoralsociety.org; or by calling (772) 494.5011.
