Joseph R. Simmons, 79, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 8, 2015.
He is survived by his son, Joseph Simmons of Albany N.Y.; daughter Brenda (Richard) Davis of Sebastian; two grandchildren Bridgette and Rebecca Davis; and one great-grandchild.
Simmons was known to many as “The Great One.” He was born in Troy, N.Y., to Raffaele and Giovannina Simmons, and was a resident of Sebastian for 29 years moving from Wynantskill, N.Y.
He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. Prior to retirement, Simmons worked as a material handler for Ford Motor Company in Green Island, N.Y. and for 10 years was employed as a security access officer at Orchid Island. He loved being retired and was an avid swimmer. He could always be counted on for a funny joke.
