School District opens enrollment for Title I Pre-K to Kindergarten transition program

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The School District of Indian River County’s Title I Program is pleased to announce that enrollment is open for the Title I Pre-K to Kindergarten Transition Summer Program.

The Title I Pre-K to Kindergarten Transition Summer Program is a high quality and developmentally appropriate instructional program taught by certified teachers and highly qualified paraprofessionals. This free program promotes readiness for school success and a positive transition from Voluntary Pre-K to Kindergarten.

Free breakfast and lunch will be provided daily. Transportation will also be provided for students residing beyond two-miles of the school they will attend. Students living within two miles of the school they attend are not eligible for school bus transportation.

The Title I Pre-K to Kindergarten Transition Summer Program begins June 15, 2015, and continues through June 30, 2015. Available student hours begin at 8 a.m. and continue through 2:30 p.m. A Parent Orientation will be held at the student’s assigned school site on June 11, 2015, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Students will be determined eligible for the Title I Pre-K to Kindergarten Transition Summer Program, if they meet the following requirements:

• They have already participated in a Voluntary Pre-K program during the 2014-2015 school year.

• They reside in an attendance zone of a school with a Title I program and will attend Kindergarten at Citrus Elementary, Dodgertown Elementary, Fellsmere Elementary, Glendale Elementary, Indian River Academy, Pelican Island Elementary, St. Peter’s Academy, or Vero Beach Elementary during the 2015-2016 school year.

Priority will be given to students not meeting expectations in print knowledge, phonemic awareness, and/or oral language, (as determined by the VPK Assessment); students eligible for the Migrant Education Program; and students identified as homeless.

Pending student enrollment, the Title I Pre-K to Kindergarten Transition Summer Program will be offered at Citrus Elementary, Dodgertown Elementary, Fellsmere Elementary, Glendale Elementary, Indian River Academy, Pelican Island Elementary, and Vero Beach Elementary. Students who will attend St. Peter’s Academy will be assigned to the appropriate school site dependent upon home address.

To enroll a child, parents must complete a registration form at the School District of Indian River County Attendance Office, located at 1426 18th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960. Call (772) 564-3145 or (772) 564-3046 for more information.

The Attendance Office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Completed registrations are due on or before May 8, 2015.

Documents required for enrollment include proof of the child’s age like an original birth certificate, proof of the family’s residency like a bill for a service received in the family’s name at a current address. The child’s social security card is requested but not required.

The child will be required to have a current (given within one year of the June 15, 2015, program start date) physical and immunization record on the Florida forms, which must be received at the school site at the Parent Orientation, prior to the child’s participation in the Summer Program. A child will not be allowed to attend until these records are complete and received on site.
