Carl Parker, M.D., 84, Vero Beach

Carl Parker, M.D., 84, of Vero Beach, passed away April 5, 2015, at Indian River Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife Kay of 58 years; son David (Judith); grandchildren Chris, Scott, Zachary and Lauren; son Jeffery (Elaine); grandchildren Megan, Nicholas, Katie; son Michael (Christine); grandchildren Kelsie, Sarah, Erin and Ben; and brother Bruce (Janet). All will greatly miss him.

Parker was born in Chicago, Ill., in 1930 and grew up in South Bend Ind., where he graduated from John Adams High School. He graduated from DePauw University as a Rector Scholar with a pre-medical science degree in 1953, where he was a member of Phi Gama Delta. He then obtained his Medical Degree from Northwestern Medical School where he belonged to Nu Sigma Nu.

He completed his internship and residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich., and served for two years at Sheppard Air Force Base as an Otolaryngologist. He then went into private practice in Toledo, Ohio, where he also served as an ENT consultant at Toledo Hospital.

Parker was recently honored as a distinguished 50 year member of Pro Medica at Toledo Hospital. During his life he enjoyed sailing, golfing, fishing, traveling and being with family and friends. He loved art and has been an elected fellow at the Royal Society in London since 1983.

The Parker family is grateful for all those involved in Carl’s care. A Memorial Service will be held at The Community Church of Vero Beach at 10:30 a.m., Friday April 10, 2015.
