Verna Gorman, 98, Vero Beach

Verna Gorman, 98, of Vero Beach, passed away on Good Friday, April 3, 2015.

She is survived by three sons and two daughters, James Gorman and JoAnne Matchette of Elm Grove, Wis., Mike Gorman (Carol) of Pewaukee, Wis., Mary Margenau (Jeff) of New Glarus, Wis., and Pat Gorman (Holly) of Vero Beach; eight grandchildren, Holly Wiebelhaus (Neal) of Wales, Wis., Annelise Matchette of Denver, Colo., Becky Schonscheck,(Ryan), Corry Higbee, and Molly Gorman, all of Arizona, and Patrick, Jack and Megan Gorman all of Vero Beach; four great-grandchildren, Lane and Grace Wiebelhaus and Peyton and Conner Schonscheck.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ellen in 2002, and siblings Marie Young, Linus Palecek, Eugene Palecek, Rose Burr, Esther Durst, Pat Palecek, Eugene Palecek, Sally Baumer, Jerome Palecek and Victor Palecek.

Gorman was born in Marshfield, Wis., on Nov. 26, 1916, daughter of the late Lena and Frank Palecek. She lived in Marshfield until 2007 and then in Elm Grove, Wis. In 2012, Gorman moved to an assisted living facility in Vero Beach.

She married Jim Gorman of Lawyler, Iowa in September of 1939. She and Jim raised six children in Marshfield, Wis. Jim passed away in 1980.

Gorman was a devoted Catholic and spent 25 years volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul in Marshfield. Golf and bridge were her favorite pastimes. Her favorite saying was “How can a young person be tired, I have never been tired a day in my life!”

A Private Service for the immediate family was held in Vero Beach on April 4, 2015. A Celebration of Verna’s life will be held this summer in Elm Grove, Wis. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make donations to St. Helen Catholic Church, 2085 Tallahassee Avenue, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
