INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — In recognition of National Volunteer Week, April 12 through 18th, the Homeless Family Center (HFC) is hosting a cocktail party for their volunteers on Thursday, April 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. The party will be held at HFC’s Second Chance Thrift Store and Training Center, 490 Old Dixie Highway, Vero Beach, to celebrate the dedicated volunteers for the Center and the Thrift Store.
“Our volunteers provide so many extra services for our families that we could never afford to pay for,” said Mary Ellen Maguire, MSW, executive director of the non-profit. “From haircuts, to tutoring, mentoring, cooking dinner, and working in our thrift store, the hours of time and the depth of talent donated by our volunteers is priceless.”
Volunteers will be treated to hors d’oeuvres and drawings for special door prizes while mingling with community members at the cocktail party. Individuals and/or groups interested in volunteer opportunities may call Dee Shelton, volunteer coordinator, at (772) 567-5537 or visit www.homelessfamilycenter.com.
The Homeless Family Center, a United Way Agency, provides opportunities for homeless families to end homelessness by achieving self-sufficiency through education, living wages and permanent housing. HFC provides the tools to empower residents by helping them to identify and resolve their problems, find better jobs, and ultimately move into homes where they can become contributing members of the community. The Homeless Family Center Second Chance Thrift Store & Training Center located at 490 Old Dixie Highway, Vero Beach, accepts donations year round; merchandise pick-up is available.
Individuals interested in donating to the Thrift Store or volunteering may call (772) 567-5537 or visit www.homelessfamilycenter.com.
