Frank J. Salamone, Sr., 93, formerly of Vero Beach, passed away on March 31, 2015, in Schenectady, N.Y., after a short illness. He was surrounded by members of his loving family.
He is survived by Ada, his wife of 72 years; children Thomas (Joyce), Mary Jane Tyler (Richard) and Frank, Jr. (Marilyn); and brothers Angelo (Rose) and Joseph; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister Angela.
Salamone was born Aug. 22, 1921, in Fondachelli-Fantina, Sicily. He was the first born of Theresa and Thomas Salamone. Salamone married his high school sweetheart Ada C. Tiberio in 1943.
He was a very talented man who could do just about anything. A graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., he worked for the General Electric Company for 43 years, initially as a design engineer in aircraft systems then in large steam turbine and generators, spending 13 of his final years assigned to General Electric Espanol in Spain where he was a resident engineer on the construction of three nuclear and six fossil fuel powered plants.
He and Ada traveled extensively throughout the world during this period and then retired to Vero Beach, returning to Schenectady in 2013. Salamone was deeply religious. His strong faith was his internal guide throughout his life and helped him to experience a peaceful death.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday April 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at DeMarco- Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Wednesday April 8, at Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, 1803 Union Street, Schenectady, N.Y. Burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial donation to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
