UPDATE: Officials identify man killed in Wabasso Causeway crash

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Law enforcement has identified the man who was killed in a head-on collision Wednesday evening on the Wabasso Causeway.

Harlow Elliott Woodward, 69, of Vero Beach was pronounced dead at the scene by the Indian River County Fire Rescue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver of the second vehicle, who was not identified, is listed in serious condition.

Woodward was traveling eastbound on County Road 510 when his vehicle swerved into the westbound lane, striking a second vehicle as Woodward entered the causeway bridge, according to FHP.

Law enforcement had issued a “be on the lookout” for Woodward’s vehicle on account of reckless driving, leading up to the crash. The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.


INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — One person is dead after a crash on the Wabasso Causeway Wednesday evening, leaving the bridge shut down in both directions as authorities investigate.

The bridge is expected to be closed for approximately two hours, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. Florida Highway Patrol will be investigating the crash, according to authorities. 

The identity of the person who died has not yet been released. No other details were immediately available.
