Quail Valley Charities benefits 33 local nonprofits

Representatives of 33 local nonprofit organizations left the Quail Valley River Club Thursday morning, clutching bright yellow envelopes as the latest beneficiaries of another remarkably successful Quail Valley Charities Cup week-long fundraiser.

“It’s a great day here today at Quail Valley; we’re going to give out half a million dollars,” said Kevin Given, Quail Valley Club co-owner with Steve Mulvey. “When Steve and I put the charity vision together years ago, I don’t think we ever envisioned that we’d be giving out a half-million dollars on a regular basis. To date now we’ve given out over $4 million dollars to children and educational charities here in Indian River County.”

Given and all involved in the process credit the event’s success to the club’s 900 members, 235 staff members, numerous event sponsors and the hard-working Quail Valley Charities Cup committee.

“This the best day; it’s really the day that we all look forward to,” said event chair Wanda Lincoln. “It’s the day that, when you’re halfway through charity cup week and you think you can’t do it any more, you say, ‘But the best day’s coming.’ And that’s today.”

She recognized the staff and volunteers at the various organizations, not only for their help in the fundraising effort, but for the contributions they make to the community on a daily basis.

“We raise money but you do the work. You touch lives every single day,” said Lincoln. “It’s impressive. One of the things that’s so good about this community, is not only are there fundraisers, but there are people who go to work every single day for the good of children. I want you to know – I speak for everybody here – we care, and we really, really respect what you do.”
