John A. Fischer, Sr., 81, of Vero Beach, passed away on Dec. 12, 2014.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Venetia Fischer of Vero Beach; sons John August Fischer, Jr. (Lita) of Thomasville, Ga., and Rev. Mark Alan Fischer (Ruth) of Hope, Ark.; daughter Paula Christine Fischer-Klak (Joseph) of Pittsburgh, Penn.; and six grandchildren Kathryn and Jonathan Fischer, Jeffrey and Joshua Fischer, and Laura and Timothy Klak.
He was preceded in death by his parents August F. and Mildred Bunn Fischer.
Fischer was born in Bayonne, N.J., and lived in Vero Beach for 20 years coming from Fanwood, N.J.
He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1954.
He began his career with Southern Bell in 1954-61 and then was promoted to the New York/New Jersey Corporate Offices of AT&T from which he retired in 1994 after years 40 years of service. He finished his career with AT&T holding the position of Financial Vice President-Financial Regulatory Matters.
He was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Wabasso. Fischer was a faithful and dedicated member of various Baptist churches serving as a Deacon, adult Sunday school teacher, as well as in many other areas of ministry. He loved the study of history in all of its forms and the study of the Bible in particular. He was loved and respected by those who knew him for his generosity, gentleness of spirit, and Christian consideration towards others.
