Rebecca “Jane” Torrey Brown, 91, of Vero Beach, passed away on March 16, 2015.
She is survived by a son, Commander David N. (Charlotte) Brown, III USN Retired of Virginia Beach, Va.; three daughters, Pamela (John) Pulver of Fort Pierce, Rebecca (Jim) Dwyer of Port St. Lucie, and Leslie (Gordon) Fry of Charleston, S.C.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Brown was the daughter of Captain George Torrey and Essie Vane Gray Torrey of Deer Isle, Maine, where she was born and raised. She spent her early years going to sea on sailing ships where her father was the Captain.
She graduated from Eastern Maine General Hospital and had a full career as a Registered Nurse. She met and married David N. Brown, Jr., of Cranford, N.J., (in Boston on a blind date) who at the time was a Midshipman at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, N.Y. They were married for 62 years and raised four children.
After meeting and marrying David, they raised their family while moving around the country, living in 10 states and bought and sold 14 houses, before retiring to Vero Beach.
She was a member of Christ Church, P.E.O., DAR, and Eastern Star.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Church at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2015.
