Senior Resource Association participates in March for Meals

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — March for Meals is a nationwide community-by-community celebration of local Meals on Wheels programs, held annually, during the month of March, initiated and sponsored by Meals on Wheels Association of America to raise awareness of the struggles faced by aging neighbors, and to encourage action on the part of local communities.

The Senior Resource Association’s March for Meals event will include a “Community Champions Week” during March 16 through 20th, when community partners and leaders will have the opportunity to participate by delivering meals to home bound seniors throughout Indian River County.

“Community Champions Week is a great opportunity for our community to see what our Meals on Wheels program is all about,” said Karen Deigl, President and CEO of the Senior Resource Association. “Not only do our clients receive a hot meal each day but also have the opportunity to see a friendly face and have a daily wellness check with the help of our wonderful volunteers.”

Hundreds of senior nutrition programs across the United States, like Senior Resource Association, promote March for Meals through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives.

In addition to “Community for Meals” week, the Senior Resource Association will place milk banks at local businesses throughout the community collecting loose change to raise dollars for its Meal on Wheels program. There are currently 75 people on the waiting list to receive meals in Indian River County.

“Our Meals on Wheels programs are on the front lines every day making sure that no senior is forgotten,” said Meals on Wheels America President and CEO Ellie Hollander. “March for Meals is a time when communities can come together to stand with their local Meals on Wheels programs and ensure all seniors live nourished lives with independence and dignity.”
