David Hall Dennison, 89, Vero Beach

David Hall Dennison, 89, of Vero Beach, passed away on Feb. 8, 2015.

He is survived by five nieces and nephews, nine great-nieces and nephews, and three great-great -nieces and nephews. As he often reminded his family, he was a “great” great uncle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, one niece, and one great-niece.

Dennison was born on Dec. 19, 1925, in Bellevue, Iowa. He graduated from Bellevue High School and went on to university for part of a year before being drafted into the Army. Survivor of Battle of the Bulge, Dennison still carried shrapnel in his shoulder 70 years later.

He worked for the Automic Energy Commission at Ames, Iowa and later ran the physics lab at the University of Chicago. Adventurous and independent, Dennison traveled with family and with friends he met at the University of Chicago, swam with a group in Lake Michigan at Chicago, bought and flew his own plane for a time until he grew tired of it, and enjoyed many, many rounds of golf. He retired to Vero Beach in 1988 in order to play golf more frequently.

Family would like to thank Moe, Gael, and Tracy for allowing David to maintain his independence to the end. An online guestbook is available at www.lowtherfuneralhome.com.
