Esther Mannherz Thorp, 83, formerly of John’s Island

Esther Mannherz Thorp, 83, of Corte Madera, Calif., formerly of John’s Island, died Feb. 14, 2015.

She was the beloved mother of Chip (Cindy) Matthes, Bill (Leigh) Matthes, and Andy (Tracy) Matthes, sister of Elmer Mannherz and Walter Mannherz, and grandmother “T.T.” to Max, Olivia, Anna, West, Quinn, Cole, and Raine. She was the stepmother of Katie Boyer, Cary Brown, Jack Thorp and Ada Huang.

She was predeceased by her husband John Thorp.

Raised in Philadelphia, Thorp attended Wittenberg University and graduated from Beaver College. She was a long time resident of Cleveland, Ohio and Vero Beach (John’s Island). She loved golf, bridge, charitable work, church and her family. Thorp was very involved with Children’s Home Society of Vero Beach and was an accomplished competitive bridge player achieving the rank of Sectional Master .

The family prefers that donations in Esther’s name be made to the Children’s Home Society of Florida, 650 10th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1pm on May 30th at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
