Attentive neighbor alerts police to South County home burglary

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Two teenagers were arrested Monday afternoon for allegedly breaking into a South County home through a bedroom window and stealing a flat screen television and Samsung tablet.

A neighbor alerted police when he heard glass break and observed two young men reaching through a broken window at a house nearby. The neighbor also saw the teens run from the home minutes later.

The two, both of Vero Beach, ages 16 and 17, were located near the 11th Street and 18th Avenue SW intersection and were later arrested in connection to the burglary.

Police found a stolen car out of Brevard County parked in the driveway of the burglarized home with two watches, a cell phone, and two flat screen televisions inside. Officers discovered the phone on the inside of the stolen car matched the phone number one of the teens provided them.

The residence was empty at the time of the burglary, but the victim later confirmed her television and a Samsung tablet were both missing from the home. A Samsung tablet was later found in one of the teen’s pocket.

Both juveniles face charges of burglary of a residence and third degree grand theft.
