Howard C. Massey, Vero Beach

Howard C. Massey, of Vero Beach, passed away on Feb. 16, 2015.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Hilda Massey; daughter Sondra Massey Siegel (Paul), of Ft. Lauderdale; son Richard C. Massey of Vero Beach; grandson Richard H. Massey of Hollywood, Fla.; and sister Shirley Gandy of Thomasville, Ga.

Born near Thomasville, Ga., on Oct. 21, 1925, Massey served two and a half years with the United States Navy during World War II. He moved to the greater Miami area in 1949.

Massey operated his own plumbing business in Metropolitan Dade County for some 15 years. He then worked as a plumbing plans examiner and assistant plumbing chief for Metropolitan Dade County Florida for 14 years. He retired in 1985 to devote full-time to writing.

Massey is the author of six technical plumbing books, one non-fiction book and two novels. His technical books are used in vocational schools nationally. “Plumbers Handbook” and “Basic Plumbing with Illustrations” and “International Plumbing and Fuel Gas Codes” are perhaps the most used of the six. His novels include “Through the Eyes of Jesus” and “Deep Woods.” The non-fiction work is “America’s Ragged Edge.”

Massey was a member of First Church of God, the Gideons International, Authors Guild, and is included in the 59th and 61st editions of “Who’s Who in America.”

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 at 1 p.m., at First Church of God, 1105 58th Ave., Vero Beach, with Pastor Greg Sempsrott officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gideons International Memorial Bible Fund, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214.
