Fellsmere’s Adams, Sebastian’s Hill to run for County Commission

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – Fellsmere Mayor Susan Adams and Sebastian Councilman Jim Hill have announced their intentions to run for the now-open District 1 County Commission seat.

Current Commissioner Wesley Davis announced this week that he would not be seeking another term on the Commission, effectively leaving his seat open in 2016. Davis, instead, will be seeking the Indian River County Property Appraiser’s Office post.

Adams is a second generation Indian River County resident and a strong advocate for the North County area. Her mother, Fran Adams, previously served on the County Commission.

“My parents instilled in me a passion to be involved in the future of my community,” Adams said in a prepared statement. “I am looking forward to working hard in the campaign to bring a positive outlook to the future of Indian River County. After being involved in multiple levels of leadership, I understand how important it is to have strong leadership on the commission and I believe I have valuable experience and attributes to continue moving the county toward a legacy of progress, while preserving the irreplaceable beauty and natural resources of Indian River County.”

Adams has served several terms on the Fellsmere City Council and is currently the City’s mayor. She was first elected to the Council in 2007 and, after serving for about a year, she was chosen to serve as Mayor, a post she has held since 2008.

Hill, who has also served several terms on the Sebastian City Council and has been the City’s mayor, announced this week via facebook that he, too, plans to seek the District 1 County Commission seat.

Hill is currently serving his sixth term on the Sebastian Council. He was first elected in 2000 and served two consecutive terms through 2004. He was then elected in 2008 and has served consecutive terms through now.

Hill was chosen to serve as the Council’s vice mayor five times and was the City’s mayor in 2010 and 2011.
