INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Indian River County Emergency Management has issued a Freeze Watch and Wind Chill Advisory for the area that includes the next two nights.
The Wind Chill Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday. The Freeze Watch is in effect from late Thursday night through Friday morning.
The coldest air of the winter season will impact the region Wednesday night. Temperatures into the 30s, combined with winds of at least 10-15 mph will produce wind chill readings of 25 to 30 degrees by daybreak Thursday.
A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and wind will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you venture outdoors make sure you cover exposed areas, including the use of a hat and gloves.
A Freeze Watch means sub-freezing temperatures are possible. These conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Bring small pets indoors and cover cold sensitive plants.
