Carroll B. ‘CB’ Keck, 93, Vero Beach

Carroll B. ‘CB’ Keck, 93, of Vero Beach, passed away on Feb. 14, 2015, at VNA Hospice House.

He is survived by his daughter Pamela Hexter of New Port Richey, Fla.; his son Kim W. “KW” Keck of Vero Beach; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by his wife Bert.

Keck was born March 14, 1921 in Coalport, Penn. He had been a seasonal resident of Vero Beach since 1974, moving here full time in 1983, coming from Panther Valley, N.J. He attended schools in Kentucky and Pennsylvania. He graduated from Doylestown, Penn., High School Class of 1938 and the University of Pennsylvania in 1955.

Keck went into the Naval Aviation Cadet Program in 1942, graduating from Pensacola in February 1944 and attending fighter training school in Sanford, Fla. He served in both the South Pacific in WWII as a fighter pilot off the Santee and again in the Pacific during the Korean War. He retired from the Navy in 1964 and went with Global Airlines as Vice President of Operations.

In 1967, Keck went with Flight Safety as program manager to develop a new corp. training program for a new model corporate jet aircraft, the Falcon Jet. He continued with Flight Safety, serving as Director of Training and Center Manager at Teterboro Jet Training Center. Keck was one of the first civilians designated as an FAA Corporate Jet Examiner. He retired from Flight Safety in 1986, but remained as a consultant until 1992. He logged more than 19,500 hours in his 53 years of flying.
