Wesley Davis won’t seek another term on County Commission

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — County Commission Chair Wesley Davis announced via a memo that he will not seek a fourth term on the Indian River Board of County Commissioners.

Davis is expected to make the announcement during his matters at Tuesday’s County Commission meeting, as indicated in a memo posted with the backup documents for the meeting.

In the memo, Davis states, “I would like to take this opportunity to announce I will not be seeking reelection in 2016 and the District 1 seat will be open for those wishing to file.”

“It has been a humbling privilege and honor to work with fellow Board colleagues, staff and mostly, Indian River County residents who have placed their confidence and faith in me over the past 12 years,” Davis said.

Davis, 45, was elected to the County Commission in 2004 after serving six years on the Indian River County School Board.

Near the end of 2014, Davis’ name was floated as a likely candidate for Rep. Debbie Mayfield’s Florida House seat when Mayfield is term-limited in 2016, but since, a crowded field of three Republican candidates have filed to run.

For the past 15 years, Davis has worked as a real estate auctioneer. He is also a fourth-generation citrus grower.
