INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Members of the American Legion Auxiliary in Sebastian have a real heart for giving to those who are in need. Every few months the members donate gift bags for the homeless veterans in the area.
Following its January meeting, auxiliary members assembled 50 gift bags. In the gift bags were basic toiletry items, batteries, razors, bug spray, hand sanitizers, tissues, Vienna sausages, snack bars, soup packages, fruit cups, candy and a hand knitted cap. Included also were two pairs of white tube socks, a very important item which is always requested and included.
Through the very generous donation of $250.00 gift card from Thrivent Financial, the socks were purchased and the group will have enough left for several more times of giving this year. Thrivent also provided the members with “Live Generously” shirts.
The gift bags were brought to The Source, a drop-in outreach ministry for Indian River County, where they were distributed. The group extends appreciation to Sam Lyons and Jose Pagan, Thrivent representatives, who helped with this important project.
