SEBASTIAN — The youth Sharks of Sebastian are hosting their third annual eight-man tackle football and cheerleading Spring season and their second annual Exceptional Flag Football league.
Eight-man tackle football is offered as a way to keep Sharks players active and improving their football skills from one season to the next. Cheerleaders use this time to work on perfecting the cheers they already know and learning new cheers, chants and tumbling.
The Exceptional Flag program was created to allow special needs children the opportunity to participate in team sports. Sharks register children of varying disabilities from ages 4-19 to play flag football. Each participant is paired with a buddy: a volunteer from the other teams, a sibling, or someone from the Shark family. Practice is held once a week so that buddies and players can learn to work together.
Saturdays are game days on the Shark field which is housed at the Barber Street Sports Complex. This season, game days will begin on Saturday, Feb. 14, and continue each Saturday thereafter until March 28.
This year, the Sharks will be inviting members of the community to be special guest referees each week. They are also planning to host special entertainment each week from within the community.
