Two arrested for lighting furniture on fire near Citrus Bowl Plaza

VERO BEACH — Police arrested one adult and one minor in relation to a mattress and recliner lit on fire near a Citrus Bowl Plaza dumpster Sunday evening.

When police first responded to a call relating to the mattress on fire, the fire had already been extinguished. The second fire involving a recliner in the same location not long after the first fire was reported, was extinguished by the responding officer.

Matthew Zervalis, 21, of the 1400th block of 16th Street, was arrested after he and the vehicle he was driving were identified by a concerned citizen as being at the scene of the fire seconds before the recliner went up in flames, according to the official report.

Zervalis was found with a minor who was also arrested for the incident.

Zervalis faces charges of possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held in lieu of $7,000 bond.
