Dr. Hugo Joseph Gruendel, 88, Vero Beach

Dr. Hugo Joseph Gruendel, 88, of Vero Beach, passed away on Feb. 4, 2015, at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.

He is survived by his wife Brenda Lordon Gruendel of Vero Beach; sons Robert Gruendel (Clare) of Greenwich Conn., and John Gruendel of Danbury, Conn.; daughter Carol Gruendel Kaelin (Michael) of Wilton, Conn.; stepsons Francis MacDonald, Jr. of Fort Pierce, and Gregory MacDonald (Dawn) of Sausilito, Calif.; stepdaughters Jennifer MacDonald of London, England and Heather MacDonald (Vincent) of Carver, Mass.; and eight grandchildren.

Dr. Gruendel was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years Catherine Moyna.

Dr. Gruendel was born in Miami and lived in Vero Beach for 16 years coming from Greenwich, Conn. He was a United States Air Force veteran having served during the Korean War. Dr. Gruendel practiced medicine for 50 years in New Rochelle, N.Y. He was a Clinical Professor at New York Medical College and a volunteer at the Indian River County Health Department for 10 years. He was a member of the Westchester Country Club, Rye, N.Y. the Greenwich Men’s Club and the Orchid Island Golf and Beach Club, Vero Beach.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Association of Kidney Patients, 3505 E Frontage Road # 315, Tampa, FL 33607 in memory of Dr. Hugo Joseph Gruendel. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach.
