VERO BEACH — Since its inception in January 2014, countless of Indian River County’s homeless and at-risk men received shelter, food, clothing, education and counseling via Camp Haven’s transitional program. More than 85 percent of those who participated in the program have graduated with a steady job, a safe place to live and a new outlook on life.
Although the success rate is impressive, the process has been challenging according to the staff, as most participants have to patiently learn to mentally break free from the difficult parts of their pasts in order to transition into a new way of life.
“The progress we’ve made thus far is a testimony to what happens when individuals, churches and businesses in the community pull together to work for the common good of others. I am extremely grateful and humbled by the continuous support we receive for these men,” said board President, Lalita Janke.
To celebrate their first year of progress and explore the possibilities that lie ahead, Camp Haven is inviting supporters and the community at large to attend their “IMAGiNE” themed gala on Feb. 12, 2015, at the Holy Cross Parish Hall (500 Iris Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32963) from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
“We’re thrilled to be a part of the celebration,” said IMAGiNE committee chair, Linda Teetz. “Just imagine how many more lives are going to be changed in 2015!”
