VERO BEACH — Please join in welcoming Valerie Elliot Shepard as she shares stories of her extraordinary life and her captivating formative experience of being the only daughter of well-known missionary parents, Elisabeth and Jim Elliot. Her father, Jim, was speared to death on the mission field of the Amazon Jungle. The story of the tragedy followed by a surprising triumph spread throughout the world and was featured in Life Magazine, other news outlets of the day, and portrayed in the movie “End of the Spear.”
When Valerie was eight years old, in 1963, Elisabeth decided to move to the States in order to provide an American education for Valerie. Elisabeth has since remarried and written many books. She has spent her life spreading the Word of God.
Valerie graduated from Wheaton College, married, and has spent 38 years being a pastor’s wife. Together, they have raised eight children, all of whom she has home schooled. She worked with her mother Elisabeth, on a radio ministry for the Back to the Bible Broadcasting Network. Ever the missionary, Valerie and her husband spent three years on the mission fields in Africa and other countries. She speaks at many retreats for women and presently she and her husband, Pastor Walter Shepard, are involved in a new endeavor – the planting of Christ Coastal Church in Southport, N.C.
