INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Homeless Family Center (HFC) has been awarded funding from the State Office on Homelessness Challenge Grant. The monies will help with the Center’s operations aiding in HFC’s mission and ultimately changing lives one family at a time.
The Treasure Coast Homeless Services Council, Inc., the lead agency for Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin Counties Continuum of Care (CoC), applied for the grant which included five CoC projects and the eligible administration fee.
HFC received $50,000 in additional funding for shelter operations. The funds will support Center operations for the emergency and transitional housing, which is the only family emergency shelter in the CoC. The plan goal is to sustain CoC’s capacity to operate safe and effective residential programs which address the specific needs of homeless residents in emergency, transitional and permanent supportive housing.
HFC, a United Way Agency, provides opportunities for homeless families to end homelessness by achieving self-sufficiency through education, living wages and permanent housing. HFC provides the tools to empower residents by helping them to identify and resolve their problems, find better jobs, and ultimately move into homes where they can become contributing members of our community. HFC also has A Second Chance Thrift Store and Training Center (ASC) located at 490 Old Dixie Highway, Vero Beach. Donations are accepted year round; merchandise pick-up is available.
Individuals interested in donating to the thrift store, volunteering or touring HFC may call (772) 567-5537 or visit www.homelessfamilycenter.com.
