Space Coast Symphony includes Hell’s Angel’s ‘American Journey’ Jan. 25

VERO BEACH — The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will take An American Journey, at 3 P.M. on Sunday, Jan. 25, at the Vero Beach Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th Street, 32960.

The all-American program will feature works by four very different American composers. The afternoon concert opens with George Gershwin’s timeless classic, Porgy and Bess Suite. Then it move to Hell’s Angels, a pop-culture infused concerto for four bassoons and orchestra by three-time Grammy Award winner Michael Daugherty.

The program also features John Williams’ powerful and soaring score to the film, Lincoln along with Howard Hanson’s magnificent Symphony No. 2, Romantic.

Advance tickets are available through the orchestra’s website for $20, at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at several convenient ticket outlets, including Marine Bank & Trust (beachside and mainland branches) and Madison Avenue Consignments. Tickets at the door are $25. The performance is free for those age 18 and under or with a college student ID.

Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Artistic Director, Aaron T. Collins enjoys the contrast of the four composers on the program.

“This is going to be a very fresh concert experience,” said Collins. “I have to admit I’m most looking forward to Daugherty’s bassoon concerto. Harley-Davidson was his inspiration for this incredible piece of music; he likened the bassoon to the drag-pipe on a Harley! The four bassoonists will be dressed in motorcycle regalia and ready to rumble.”
