VERO BEACH — Vero’s World Baazaar and Antique Mall is proud to announce that the highly recognized Highwaymen will be showcasing some of their art work on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 720 S Us Highway 1, Vero Beach.
The exotic beauty of Florida’s landscape was once translated though talented artists who sold their paintings door-to-door, out of the trunk of their cars, and inexpensively along the highways in and around Vero Beach and Fort Pierce. These artists were known as the Highwaymen who painted their way out of despair.
Their passion originated in the early and mid-50s, and the demand and appreciation for their stunning and realistic paintings has increased, quite a treasure hunt for some people.
Featured artists include Willie C. Reagan, Doretha Hair Truesdell, Carnell Smith, Curtis Arnett, John Maynor and Charles Walker.
“We hope this exhibit brings a recognition of these artists from people who can see that the Treasure Coast started way back with artists, and we continue to this day,” said Debra Coburn, Antique Mall Manager.
