FELLSMERE — Thursday, a day that was meant for holiday cheer, brought tragedy to a Fellsmere family when their 9-year-old girl was involved in a hit-and-run crash, according Fellsmere Police Chief Keith Touchberry.
The incident happened in the afternoon when the girl was riding a mini-dirt bike in her front yard in the 1000 block of State Street, according to police. The girl lost control and fell in the street. That is when the suspect authorities are looking for struck her.
Fellsmere Police have requested Florida Highway Patrol to assist in the investigation due to the severity of collision, according to Chief Touchberry.
Authorities are looking for the driver of the yellow dirt bike believed to be involved in the hit-and-run crash.
The child was flown to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando. This is an ongoing investigation.
