Paul Chovanec, of Vero Beach, passed away on Dec. 15, 2014.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Ruth Chovanec of Vero Beach; daughter Penny Kirby (Al Jr., Kirby) of Sautee Nacoochee, Ga.; grandchildren Al Kirby III and Melissa Kirby Riddell; great-grandchildren Addison and Kirby Riddell; stepdaughter Susan Long of Vero Beach; three sisters, Susan Tenza, Betty Marino, and Maria (Vickie) Shavel.
He is preceded in death by his first wife of 46 years, Helen Murphy Chovanec.
Born in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, he had been a resident of Vero Beach for more than 20 years, coming from Queens, N.Y. A Veteran of World War II, he served in the US Navy on the Destroyer C. K. Bronson, and was awarded four medals with five battle stars.
An avid golfer, he played with the United Nations Golf Team and the Rogue Runners of Vero Beach.
