Susan Joyce, 90, formerly of Winchester, Mass., Sandwich, Mass., and Sebastian, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Dec. 14, 2014.
She is survived by her children Robert Joyce (Barbara) of Sandwich, Mass., Ramayana Baba (Chandra) of Sebastian, Deborah Penn (Bruce) of Raynham, Mass., and Blair Joyce (Judi) of Golden, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Born in Springfield, she was the only child of the late Louis and Ruth (Dawson) Thompson. She attended the Massachusetts School of Art before meeting her husband of 58 years, Robert Joyce. They married in 1943 and traveled extensively while he was in the Army Air Corps during WWII.
Eventually they settled in Bob’s hometown of Winchester.
Joyce’s fondest memories were of raising her children and entertaining her many friends and Bob’s Ford Motor associates in her cherished home on Mystic Valley Parkway.
She lived a life of volunteerism, working for the Winchester Hospital Gift Shop, the Winchester Hospital Auxiliary Club (Winton Club) and the Winchester Garden Club. After retiring to Sandwich, Mass., she volunteered for the Sandwich Glass Museum, Saint John’s Episcopal Church and the Sandwich Food Pantry.
Late in life, Joyce relocated to Sebastian. There she enjoyed the sunshine, warm weather and catching up on her reading. She was a gifted hostess and had many friends everywhere she lived. Her sassy, spitfire nature will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Her ashes will be interred with those of her husband this spring at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Mass.
