INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Israeli violin sensation Dmitry Daniel Askerov returns to Brevard County for a third time to direct the inaugural Crescendo International Winter Music Festival from Dec. 28 through Jan. 1.
The violinist from Beit Shemesh, Israel has assembled festival faculty from among talented international string musicians in Asia, Europe and the United States. The eight faculty members, each from a different country, will instruct young string students daily during the festival and perform public concerts of chamber music masterpieces at 7 p.m. each evening.
The December 28-31 chamber music concerts will be performed at Temple Beth Sholom, 5995 N. Wickham Road in Suntree, 32940. The Gala closing concert on New Year’s Day (Jan. 1) will include string students alongside the festival faculty at Temple Israel, 7350 Lake Andrew Drive in Viera, 32940.
While additional donations are welcome, a single $10 ticket will provide entry to all five concerts. The Crescendo International Winter Music Festival is sponsored by the Sister City Program, an organization promoting cultural ties between the cities of Cocoa, Florida and Askerov’s hometown of Beit Shemesh, Israel.
The eight festival faculty members are from Germany, Albania, Slovenia, Croatia, Israel, Argentina, Korea and the United States. The U.S. string musician chosen as a faculty member is Carey Moorman, Concertmaster for the Space Coast Symphony and Principal 2nd Violinist for the Brevard Symphony Orchestra. After trips to Central Florida as a performer, Israeli violinist, Dmitry Daniel Askerov decided that Brevard was an ideal location for a winter music festival. “Last year, I felt privileged to give a master class in Melbourne. I saw that there was a big interest in music and that people love and appreciate music here. Yet there are few music festivals in Florida and none in Orlando or Melbourne. So I felt that it would be a wonderful idea to bring the Crescendo Winter Music Festival for string instruments to Central Florida. I hope it will continue in the future as an international music festival welcoming all other instruments.”
The violin virtuoso explained his motivation for gathering musicians from around the world for the event.
“I believe we can demonstrate that music is truly the international language,” said Askerov. “Audiences can see how eight international musicians come, work and play together. We hope to contribute to music education and appreciation in Brevard County and reach out to classical music lovers, young and old.”
The public is invited to attend one or all five nightly chamber concerts for a single ticket price of $10. For more information about the Crescendo International Winter Music Festival, visit www.CrescendoMusicFest.com or call (321) 426-7115.
