Dodgertown events raise funds for local organizations

VERO BEACH — The late October Jake Owen Benefit Concert and December’s Step Up America Heroes Festival starring The Band Perry brought two of the biggest names in country music to Historic Dodgertown.

The Los Angeles Dodgers adult baseball camp game that featured campers versus their instructors saw Dodgers greats take the field once again at Holman Stadium. With these events along with the annual St. Helen’s Harvest Festival, the County-owned facility has truly been utilized for community endeavors in recent weeks.

The two concerts were highly entertaining events that raised dollars to benefit The Jake Owen Foundation and the American Security Council Foundation, respectively.

The VNA Hospice and Home Health Care partnered with Historic Dodgertown to promote the instructors vs. campers game held at every adult baseball camp. With more than 650 in attendance for the afternoon ballgame and fundraising events held throughout the Adult Camp, Historic Dodgertown and the VNA proudly raised nearly $6,000 dollars for the VNA.

In partnership with Historic Dodgertown, a number of additional organizations benefitted from the hard work of volunteers staffing the concession stands. Over the two events, The Exchange Club of Indian River, Vero Beach High School Boys and Girls Lacrosse Booster Clubs, Vero Beach High School Band Booster Club and St. Helen’s Youth on a Mission each served food and beverages while earning a percentage of sales for their respective organizations.

In total, more than $7,400 dollars was raised between the two concert events for these local organizations.

The holiday time will ring in the return of a flurry of sports events and camps with Baseball Factory, Softball Factory and a Lacrosse Goalie School before the new year. The early 2015 calendar includes the return of both the Minor League Baseball Umpire School and the SK Wyverns Baseball Training (of the Korean Baseball Organization) before 2,500-plus amateur baseball games take place over the following months.
