AT&T supports IRSC’s ‘Take Stock in Children’ scholarships

INDIA RIVER COUNTY — AT&T demonstrated its commitment to the success of area students through its support of the “Take Stock in Children” scholarship program at Indian River State College.

Representatives from AT&T recently visited the IRSC Main Campus in Fort Pierce to present the IRSC Foundation with a $25,000 check supporting deserving middle and high school students participating in the Take Stock in Children program. The AT&T donation will award three students four year college scholarships.

“The positive impact on the lives of the students receiving mentorship and scholarships through Take Stock in Children is genuinely significant,” shares Ann Decker, Executive Director of the IRSC Foundation. “This contribution by AT&T demonstrates their commitment to the success of students that now have the opportunity to attend college through the Take Stock program because of this donation.”

The Take Stock in Children scholarship program is designed to motivate and assist students showing academic promise that might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend college.

Scholarship recipients are matched with adult volunteer mentors from the community who provide guidance and encouragement. Scholarship recipients agree to maintain good grades, stay out of trouble, stay away from drugs and alcohol, and graduate from high school. Those who meet the challenge receive a scholarship to attend IRSC for two years, followed by two years at IRSC or a Florida public college or university.

The President’s Challenge/Take Stock in Children Scholarship program is made possible through program contributors like AT&T and is coordinated locally by the IRSC Foundation offered in cooperation with the Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie County school districts.
