Accused burglar found sleeping in victim’s closet

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An Indian River County teen faces a burglary charge among others after allegedly forcing himself through the bedroom window of a juvenile who has an order of protection filed against him.

Ian McPherson, 18, of the 2000th block of 9th Place in Vero Beach, contacted the victim via phone late Tuesday night, according to the arrest affidavit. He then showed up at the victim’s home and climbed in through her unlocked window despite her attempt to keep him outside.

The victim sent a text message at approximately 11:30 p.m. to her mother who was asleep in an adjacent bedroom that read, “He’s in my closet. He wouldn’t leave. I don’t want him here,” according to the report.

Her mother and father read the text message Wednesday morning and immediately notified authorities.

Police found an uncooperative McPherson on the floor of the victim’s bedroom closet at approximately 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The victim told authorities she did not yell or call for help because she did not want McPherson to become angry, so she ordered him to sleep in the closet and he complied.

McPherson is being held in lieu of $35,500 bond and faces charges of felony burglary of an occupied dwelling, two counts criminal violation injunction for protection, and misdemeanor resist arrest without violence.
