Henry W. “Hank” Westphalen, Jr., 81, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on Dec. 6, 2014, at Willowbrook Court at Indian River Estates.
He is survived by Sally, his devoted wife of 43 years; his loving daughter Susan Keitel (George); two adoring stepchildren John C. Straton III and Sara S. Straton; three grandchildren, Geoffrey William Keitel, Nicea Rose Straton-Shea and Teal Grace Straton-Shea; and his brother and sister-in-law, Jules and Beverly Westphalen.
He was an honest, decent man who cherished his co-mingled family.
Born and raised in Bergen County, N.J., Westphalen joined the family firm Beechwood Press, Inc. following graduation from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1953. He served as the company’s president from 1971 to 1993. He was also a founder of two other companies, General Business Services, Inc. a national small-business tax service franchise, and Sports Programs, Inc., publisher of sports-related medias guides and yearbooks.
Always supportive of his industry, he voluntarily organized many printing functions. He was also president of the Master Printing Section of Printing Industries of Metropolitan New York, and a founder, president and chairman of Print/New Jersey. He served as printing liaison on the Board of Utica National Insurance Group for 11 years.
After retirement from Beechwood Press, Westphalen turned a long-time interest into a vocation by joining Paine Webber, Inc. as Account Vice President for 10 years. Retiring again in 2003, he and Sally found their next home at the Moorings in Vero Beach where he enjoyed an active treasure coin collecting hobby, boating in the lagoon, and many sports. They also maintained homes in Stratton Mountain and Dorset, Vt., for 40 years.
A Celebration of Life is planned for February, 2015, at Indian River Estates West. Memorial donations may be sent to ACTS Samaritan Fund for Indian River Estates, 7730 Indian Oaks Dr., Vero Beach, FL 32966.
