Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performs in Vero Jan 15.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River Symphonic Association is honored to welcome back London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, 7:30 p.m. at the Community Church of Vero Beach.

Pinchas Zuckerman, the orchestra’s renowned conductor and violin soloist, will perform Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, one of the greatest works of classical music ever written, some say the greatest.

The concert is sold out for individual tickets, although Season Subscriptions are still available which include this performance. The Royal Philharmonic, widely regarded as the Premiere London Orchestra, among nine others previously performed here in 2006, 2008 and 2012.

The Program will open with Mozart’s Overture to The Marriage of Figaro followed by the Beethoven Violin Concerto (1806), D major, featuring conductor and soloist Pinchas Zuckerman.

Its premiere performance held Dec. 22, 1806, directed by Beethoven, received mixed opinions: “some acknowledged it has much beauty in it”…while others criticized it as “fatiguing… one fears that if Beethoven pursues his present path, he and the public will come to no good end.” It remained unaccountably neglected for 38 years. In 1844, 17 years after Beethovan’s death, the Violin Concerto “won a permanent place in the repertoire as the result of an historic concert given by 12-year-old Joseph Joachim under the direction of Felix Mendelssohn.”

The evening’s program will also feature Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 88. Program notes indicate “the Seventh is Dvorak’s most solidly built symphony with an epic quality that underlies its typically high-spirited episodes. The Eighth is his most personal, beguiling and fantastic.”
