SEBASTIAN — Crowds lined Indian River Drive in Sebastian, shoulder to shoulder and three or four deep, to take in the parade of Christmas lights and cheer – and catch a peek of Santa Claus Saturday evening.
Children wiggled in their seats and hopped from one foot to another while waiting, anxiously scanning the street for signs that the Jolly Ol’ Elf would soon be passing by.
Keeping them occupied were dozens upon dozens of floats dressed in twinkling lights and festive decorations. Riders wished watchers “Merry Christmas” and watchers responded in kind.
Nearly an hour after the start, Santa and Mrs. Claus appeared at their sleigh, heralded by the Sebastian River GFWC Junior Woman’s Club marching band.
The appearance prompted excited cheers and applause from children and adults alike, knowing that the holiday season – in Sebastian – has officially arrived.
