INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Environmental Learning Center (ELC) will be all lit up and ready to welcome the holiday season with its third annual WinterGreen NightLights on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Sponsored by John’s Island Real Estate and chaired by Ginger Heller, this celebration will take place from 4 – 8 p.m. and feature activities for children and adults alike.
Come paddle a canoe through the mangrove trails lit with holiday lights (age 6 and up). Stroll along the campus trail and experience the pages of a storybook about a child visiting his grandparents in Florida. The Native Plant Garden will be illuminated, and children can create and take home an ornament made from recycled materials. The Discovery Station with its always-popular Touch Tank will be open, as will the Nature Nook, the ELC’s very special gift shop. Gift wrapping will be available for all holiday purchases.
Carolers from area schools will provide holiday music in the Lagoon Room, and two local music groups will perform holiday music around the campus. Of course Florida Santa Claus will be on hand. And for those wanting holidays with less “stuff,” gift certificates for ELC Ecology Adventures and memberships will be available.
Admission is $5 for adults and children 13 and up. ELC members and children 12 and under attend for free.
The ELC is located north of Vero Beach, off County Road 510, at the western end of the Wabasso Bridge. Its 64-acre campus includes exhibit areas, native plant gardens, picnic facilities, gift shop, and a visitor center.
ELC membership benefits, a list of its many field excursions, Ecology Adventures, including nature walks, canoe excursions and other boating adventures may be found at www.DiscoverELC.org.
Admission to the ELC, a non-profit organization, is $5 per person. There is no charge for ELC members and children 12 and under. The first Saturday of every month is free-of-charge for all.
