Authorities capture one of Indian River County’s ‘most wanted’

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office has arrested one of their “most wanted” suspects after a weekend assault occurred, according to authorities.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Demonte Marshall, 22, threatened the lives of two people by pointing a handgun at one and verbally threatening a second one, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A witness observed the weapon and threats and told detectives that both victims were truly in fear for their lives. Detectives and deputies with the Sheriff’s Office began a search for Marshall that ended safely Tuesday afternoon.

Warrants were obtained early Monday morning for Marshall for the charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to authorities.

Detectives issued a bulletin to local law enforcement agencies indicating that Marshall was to be considered armed and dangerous and currently one of the top wanted fugitives in Indian River County. Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers was made aware of Marshall’s outstanding warrants and information was received that led to his arrest this afternoon.

“Marshall’s previous violent felony arrests and convictions in conjunction with his recent violent behaviors put our agency on high alert,” said Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar. “Fortunately, today, Demonte Marshall was arrested without any further harm to our community. Demonte Marshall will be held on no bond until his first appearance tomorrow morning.”

Marshall was previously arrested on Oct. 16, for the charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Other previous arrests include charges of fleeing and eluding police, felony armed burglary of a dwelling, multiple counts of felony grand theft of a firearm, and grand theft auto.

Anyone with information relating to this case or any other case involving Demonte Marshall is encouraged to contact Det. Charlie Clark at (772) 978-6188 in reference to case number 2014-195475. As always, callers can remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 by contacting Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-TIPS (8411).
