Joyce Malkmes, 90, of Vero Beach, formerly of Stony Brook, N.Y., passed away on Nov. 10, 2014.
She is survived by her brother John Conforte of Canadian Lakes, Mich.; her children Wendy Hammerstone (Gary) of Morganton, N.C., Jon Malkmes (Kim Solomito) of Watermill, N.Y., Michael Malkmes (Lisa) of Miller Place, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Annie Luckett (Kevin) of Carlsbad, Calif., Patrick Malkmes (Bethany) of Port Jefferson, N.Y., Carrie Malkmes of Miller Place; and three great-grandchildren, Addison and Walker Luckett and Patrick Daemon Malkmes.
Malkmes will be remembered by her family and countless friends as a devoted wife to the late Harold Malkmes, caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, newspaper editor, pilot, florist, community theater actress, real estate agent, avid golfer and tennis player and world traveler.
She will be remembered in Vero as a volunteer at McKee Gardens, Habitat for Humanity, and Our Father’s Table. She was a devout member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church. Her boundless energy, generous heart and loving spirit will carry on in those who loved her.
A celebration of her extraordinary life was held at the Stony Brook Yacht Club. Memorials may be made to Harold H. Malkmes Wildlife Education and Ecology Center, Holtsville, N.Y.
