INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Environmental Learning Center (ELC) is hosting its annual “Discover Volunteering” open house on Tuesday, Dec. 2, on a drop-in basis between 3 and 5 p.m.
“This is an ideal way to explore volunteer possibilities without making a commitment,” says Nancy Puglio, ELC Volunteer Coordinator. “The opportunities are many, both seasonal and year round, and promise to be both fun and rewarding.”
Staff and current volunteers will be on hand in the Entry Pavilion of the campus located off County Road 510 at the western end of the Wabasso Bridge to answer questions.
Among the volunteer opportunities are greeting visitors in the Entry Pavilion and handling sales in the Nature Nook, the ELC’s gift shop. Or help with general care of the grounds as part of the ELC’s “Green Team.” Docents are needed in the Discovery Station to act as general guides or Touch Tank specialists. More opportunities include canoe guides, assistants for school group visits, helpers for ELC special events, the possibilities are endless.
Potential volunteers are encouraged to come, visit the campus, ask questions, and see if volunteering at the ELC is a good fit.
