James ‘Jim’ Coonrod, 92, of Vero Beach, passed away on Nov. 15, 2014, in Vero Beach.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Linda Brown in Sunnyvale, Calif., Cherie Hinojosa (George) in Albuquerque, N.M., and David J. Coonrod (Paula) of Waxhaw, N.C.; six grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.
Coonrod was born to Gordon and Elizabeth Coonrod in Waterloo, Iowa, on Sept. 1, 1922.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a Bombardier in a B17 Flying Fortress, flying 30 missions. He was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with five Oak Leaf clusters and many other medals and ribbons. He was recalled to the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired as a Lt. Col. on Dec. 1, 1967. He married Nancy King on December 16, 1967.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m. at Central Assembly of God in Vero Beach. Arrangements are under the direction of Haisley Funeral & Cremation Service.
